a letter from
John Stanzione
Ed. Note -- While poking around the net for references to the Hullabahoos,
I stumbled across a want ad at the website of the
Contemporary A Cappella Society of America (CASA),
posted by our very own John Stanzione. So I
dropped him a line to see if he really was relocating to the Caribbean to sing a
cappella...
It is in fact true. Hawkins and I are in a new
"vocal band" (the new "cool" term for professional a cappella groups) called
Jyde. We're rehearsing in Burlington, NC for a month, and then we'll be
recording an album at good old Virginia Arts Recording in Charlottesville,
after which we'll be headed to St. Thomas in the USVI. We've put together a
kick ass sound system, signed a lease on a furnished townhouse on the north
side of the island on one of the best golf courses in the Caribbean.
There are seven of us:
- myself
- Hawkins
- Dave Cary (UVA '98 - he sang with those darn New Dominions)
- Greg Dodson (UVA '97 - he sang with that awful group whose initials are AVP, but he sings real pretty)
- Nate Altimari (from the University of Massachusetts -- he's a jazz vocal performance major taking a year or two off)
- Nick Niles (BC '97 - graphic designer extraordinaire and he sang with the Bostonians)
- Samrat Chakrabarti (Brandeis '97, but most recently from the pro group Five O'Clock Shadow -- he's a percussion genius -- the best I've ever heard (sorry Freiden)).
At any rate, we'll be down there by the 12th of November. I'll let you all
know what our address is, and any of you B'hoo alum are welcome at any time.
