The Subaru Punt
footnote

I originally heard this story at my first year-end banquet in spring '91, and thinking back, I seemed to remember a further twist right about where the police showed up. The Subaru didn't quite make it to Rhode Island, but it did literally get punted into the next county.

Michael Tuminello confirms:

...I couldn't believe that Grady left out the most important part. It was knocked either into the next town, or into the next county (don't remember which). The reason we know this is it took a while for them to take care of it because the first cop showed up only to find out that the accident was no longer in his jurisdiction, so we had to wait for the officer in the neighboring town, county, or whatever to show up.

I was half-napping between the front seats at the time (probably not a good place to sit in general), and will always have the memory of the pleasure of opening my eyes to a front windshield covered in glass shards.
